How to replace the firmware on my router?

The process of installing or replacing a firmware on a router is achieved by a method called flashing. In most cases, upgrading your router is almost as simple as installing a program to your computer. Yet, there is a huge difference. You cannot just uninstall a standard firmware and then install DD-WRT or Tomato. You must upgrade the routers control panel first.
